BDÜ Position Paper on Child Language Brokering
I draw your attention to a position paper our German colleagues at BDUE have prepared on the important issue of children being used as interpreters in interactions with government authorities, in medical settings etc., the implications that has for the children involved, and for our professions.
I commend the team at BDUE who prepared the original text and who translated it into English so that their ideas could be more widely shared among the translation/interpreting community.
These are important topics, and were alluded to in some part at the event FIT Europe organised in 2019 about "Communication in crisis settings". Much remains to be done though.
All the best,
Chairperson / FIT Europe
